Professional
Division
In
the Division of Professional Activities, active membership shall
be open to principals, assistant principals, vocational directors,
assistant vocational directors, and other school administrators
whose primary job function is that of a building principal or assistant
principal. These positions shall be in schools that are on the most
current list of schools that have met the Basic School Approval
Requirements established by the Maine Department of Education or
are on the roster of schools that have met the Guidelines for Non-Approved
Private Schools Recognized Only For Purposes of the Compulsory Attendance
Law established by the Maine Department of Education. Associate
membership is open to all former principals, former assistant principals,
former vocational directors, former assistant vocational directors,
and graduate students currently enrolled in a program leading to
Administrative Certification, and other individuals interested in
school administration. Honorary memberships in recognition of outstanding
contributions to Maine youth may be extended to individuals as approved
by the Professional Executive Committee. Active members of the Division
of Professional Activities are entitled to vote, hold office, serve
on all committees of the Maine Principals’ Association (professional
and interscholastic), and request legal assistance through the legal
resource fund. Associate members of the Division of Professional
Activities shall receive all mailings of the MPA and shall be entitled
to attend all conferences and meetings of the MPA at the active
membership rate. Associate members shall not be entitled to vote,
hold office, serve on standing committees, nor have access to the
legal resource fund. Life members are those individuals holding
Maine Elementary Principals’ Association life memberships, retired
Maine Secondary School Principals’ Association and Maine Elementary
Principals’ Association presidents, and retired MPA presidents.
Life members shall receive all mailings of the MPA and shall be
entitled to attend all conferences and meetings of the MPA at the
active membership rate. Life members shall not be entitled to vote,
hold office, serve on standing committees, nor have access to the
legal resource fund. The membership dues paid by individuals of
the Division of Professional Activities shall be set by a majority
vote of the membership present at a regular Professional Activities
Division Business Meeting. Dues must be paid to be eligible to vote
at any Professional Activities Division Meeting.
Interscholastic
Division
In
the Division of Interscholastic Activities, all high schools that
have met the Basic School Approval Requirements established by the
Maine Department of Education or are on the roster of schools that
have met the Guidelines for Non-Approved Private Schools Recognized
Only For Purposes of the Compulsory Attendance Law established by
the Maine Department of Education and whose principal has signed
the Institutional Dues Assessment Form are eligible for membership.
Each member school is entitled to one vote and that vote shall be
cast by the school’s principal or the principal’s designee. The
membership dues paid by participating schools of the Division of
Interscholastic Activities shall be set by a majority vote of the
schools represented at a regular Division of Interscholastic Activities
Business Meeting. The membership year shall be from July 1 to the
following June 30. Payment of dues must be made by November 1. Schools
that have not paid dues by this date shall be considered dropped
from membership and shall be ineligible to participate in any interscholastic
division activities until reinstated or an extension is granted
by the Interscholastic Management Committee. The dues and other
income of each Division will remain allocated to that Division.
The fiscal affairs of each Division shall be maintained in separate
accounts. In the case of any common endeavor benefiting both Divisions,
the Management Committees of the Divisions shall determine the proper
proration of expenses and/or income.
