About the Conference

The theme for the 2017-18 conference is P.R.I.D.E. - Personal Responsibility in Delivering Excellence. The Leadership conference is a half day event with the opportunities for students to hear from keynote sepakers, have a chance to collaborate with other student councils, and elect the 2017-18 officers for the Maine Student Council Advisiory Committee.

This year’s state-wide service project is the Travis Mills Foundation. The Travis Mills Foundation’s mission is to support combat injured veterans and their families through long term programs that help these heroic men and women overcome physical obstacles, strengthen their families, and provide well-deserved rest and relaxation.

Also during this time, we will hold elections for the 2017-2018 Maine Student Council Officers. If you have a student who may be interested in running for an office, the following positions will be available: 1.) MASC Vice-President Elect (can be in any high school grade); 2.) MASC President-Elect (must be a junior in high school, to then be President their senior year); and 3.) Middle School/Junior High School Representative. We will also need the following from each region to serve on the Maine Student Council Board: 1.) Regional Presidents (North, South, East, West, and Central); 2.) Regional Secretaries (North, South, East, West, and Central); and 3.) Middle School/Junior High School Representatives (North, South, East, West, and Central). Click HERE for information on the Leadership Roles and Responsibilities.

The Maine Association of Student Councils (MASC) wishes to welcome all to the 2017-2018 school year. MASC, with a student led executive committee and sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, has developed a plan to transform leadership opportunities for Maine students. MASC invites Maine high school and junior high/middle schools to join our association. Student council provides an opportunity for student to lead their schools in a positive and active style. We provide guidance at the local, regional, state, and national levels. Membership provides your school access to workshops, meetings, information and the opportunity to communicate with fellow student councils.

The Maine Association of Student Councils’ annual dues is $60 per school. Dues covers part of the cost of venues for the Leadership Conference in December as well as the State Conference in May.

Your student council can be part of the exciting activities in your school. Regional conferences will be planned with your newly elected state officers and will take place in March – April throughout the state. Finally, the State Conference will be planned by this year’s State Officers and will take place in May.

The Maine Association of Student Councils invites your school to join and be part of the collegiality of student council membership. If you have any questions, or would like more information, please contact Holly Couturier at 207-622-0217 ext. 126 or by e-mail hcouturier@mpa.cc.
